Our theme for the week was incorporated into Mensieland’s lesson plan “Shopping”. Our students learned the Names and Logos of a few well known shops, and these were also taught as sight words for reading. We also created a few mock-up shops and the children had to find products in the shops, from pre-prepared shopping lists. We concluded our day by using their money earned over the past 2 weeks as follows: a) R10 was spent in the school’s sweetie shop; b) R4 per child was donated to the SPCA; c) A minimum of R6 per child was banked as savings. Some of our students saved more than R30 in just two weeks. Not bad for three-, four- and five year olds.
